Puerto Vallarta in May: Guide to Festivals & Pride 🏳️‍🌈

May in Vallarta, with its gay pride gets hotter than ever..!

Puerto Vallarta in May feels like the city stretching into summer—warmer, livelier, and just a little more electric than the months before. The days grow hotter, the air a bit heavier, and life seems to spill out onto the streets, beaches, and open-air terraces.

May in Puerto Vallarta isn’t just about one big festival, it’s a full calendar of moments, from cultural traditions to city-wide celebrations. If you’re planning a trip in May 2026, these are the key dates and events that shape the month.
At the start of the month, Labor Day (May 1) brings a quieter kind of observance. It’s a public holiday, so some businesses may close or operate on reduced hours, of course Katya Homm Properties will be open 😉
Early May also usually features the Vallarta Azteca International Folklore Festival (typically first week of May). This is one of the most colorful cultural events of the year, with traditional dance groups from Mexico and around the world performing in public squares and theaters. It adds a very authentic, local feel to the city—less party, more culture.

One of the most important local days is Mother’s Day (May 10). In Mexico, this is a major celebration—bigger than in many other countries, Restaurants fill up, families gather for long, breakfasts or lunches, and you’ll often hear live mariachi serenading mothers throughout the day.

Then, as the month builds, everything leads into the main event: Vallarta Pride (May 17–24, 2026).

This is when Puerto Vallarta shifts gears completely. The city fills with visitors, and the atmosphere becomes vibrant, open, and celebratory.

And here is the calendar for the gay parade week:

  • May 17 → Opening events and parties begin
  • May 18 → Pet Parade (a fun, very local-favorite event)
  • May 21 → Pride Parade along the MalecĂłn (the biggest day)
  • May 21–24 → Beach parties, club events, and major nightlife
  • May 24 → Closing celebrations

Even if you’re not specifically coming for Pride, it’s hard not to get swept up in the energy—it’s everywhere, from beach clubs to restaurants to the streets at night. It is really one-of-a-kind experience! And if you do come to celebrate, please feel free to reach out to us for more info. See you guys in May!
