Semana Santa 2024 in Puerto Vallarta

What is Semana Santa?

Semana Santa, or Holy Week, is the week before Easter in Latin America.  It is a significant religious observance in Mexico, spanning the week leading up to Easter Sunday. It commemorates the final days of Jesus Christ’s life, including his crucifixion and resurrection. Holy Thursday and Good Friday are the most celebrated days of the Holy Week

Semana Santa and Easter aren’t typically marked with Easter Bunnies and egg hunts as it is in the U.S. and Canada. Instead, for many here in Puerto Vallarta, those dates are not only significant religious occasions but also vibrant celebrations embraced by locals and national and international visitors.  As more people come to the city for vacation, the beaches in Puerto Vallarta get busy with tourists enjoying the happy atmosphere and sunny weather. While there are serious events happening in churches, the beaches are full of families and friends having a good time, eating tasty food, and celebrating Easter in the traditional way. Whether you’re relaxing with a drink on the beach or attending a religious event, you’ll feel the festive spirit that matches the religious customs of the city. These lively scenes show the mix of cultures in Puerto Vallarta, making it a special place for everyone who comes to visit!
